Alternatives for Women empowers and supports women to move beyond violence and abuse through the provision of safe and affordable transitional housing, free counselling, education and outreach services for women in Prince Edward County.

At Anova, we believe an inclusive world of shared power where everyone lives freely without fear of violence is possible. We are working to create change to eliminate patriarchal patterns that result in gender-based sexual violence and inequality. We are the product of a merger between London’s Women’s Community House and Sexual Assault Centre London, to provide improved services to our community. Anova provides safe places, shelter, support, counselling, and resources for abused women, their children, and all oppressed individuals to find a new start.

We provide care to any person of any age who has been sexually assaulted. We also provide care to any person who is being abused by their intimate partner. Types of abuse can be physical, sexual, mental/emotional, spiritual, or financial. Our focus is on the health and well-being of our clients. All of our clients deserve and receive our respect and unconditional support. We do not judge. We respect our clients’ privacy and wishes. ASAP services are completely confidential. We do not involve the police unless the adult client (16 years of age and older) wants us to do so. If a victim is under the age of 16 and has been sexually assaulted, we may be required to call the Children’s Aid Society.

The mandate of the Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence Treatment Centers is to address the health, psycho-social, and forensic needs of victims/survivors of sexual violence and/or domestic violence in a prompt, professional, and compassionate manner. We provide services for youth under 18, for acute and historical sexual assault/abuse, teen dating violence, trafficking and online exploitation.
